Software agreements eh? Who hates ’em? Yeah us too. Who on earth wants to wade through 5 pages of densely worded text to discover what we’re signing up for when we install a program onto our computer? Not us. But the problem is, that’s how they trap us into agreeing to accept nasty stuff like advertising, tracking, data collection, clauses allowing the developers to collect our first born at midnight. That sort of thing. But ta-da, now we have a tool which let’s us fight back.

EULAlyzer is a freeware program which automatically scans the license terms of software programs and delivers a report on any suspicious or dodgy phrases or terms it discovers. To use it, just install and fire it up when you’re installing a new program, point it at the end user license terms (there’s a handy drag and drop selector included) and hit the Analyze button.

In seconds the freeware will come back with a report highlighting anything of concern, including phrases such as ‘without notice’ or other terms which you should probably read to make sure you’re not signing your life away. The whole process is very fast, painless and genuinely useful, especially if you’ve often wondered exactly what it is you’re signing up for when you click ‘Continue’ on the install menu.

The free Personal version offers the full feature set, but if you want an instant automatic scan of all license agreements without you having to do anything at all, you’ll need to spend $19.95 a year for the Pro license. While the free version will probably be fine for most people, business users will need to sign up for the Pro version anyway.
