Exif Date Changer – Fix those pesky photo times and dates

Stop me if you’ve heard this one. A couple of weeks ago it was our daughter’s 1st birthday. After the party died down a bit I grabbed a copy of everyone’s photos and dropped them into Picasa and, as I normally do, tried to sort them according to the time they were taken. Uh oh. There were photos everywhere.

Turns out the clock in my father’s camera was out by about 11 time zones, thanks to a trip to Venice and my brother-in-law’s camera was out by an hour. My camera clock was perfect of course.

Determined not to fix the date in all those photos by hand, I googled and found the suitably named, Exif Date Changer, a batch processing Exif data modifier that only adjusts the the date and time data embedded in photo files. Five clicks and 208 photos later, everything was sorted and Picasa was displaying the photos in the proper order.

Exif Date Changer is freeware, a tiny download and is super easy to use with plenty of file renaming options. Highly recommended!

  • I know how that feels. Picasa has a time shift feature just as iPhoto has for the Mac. You can correct the date on all photo's easily. But it's always a pain to find the correct time to sync up to, until I thought of taking a picture of a clock with all cameras. Works brilliantly! If you like you can read how I did it on my blog:

Glad to see you got it all sorted with a free tool. Isn't the Internet a great place. Cheers!

  • Soooo… Does it give you the time the original pic was taken, or the time you are putting it into a folder or whatever?? I’m missing an integral point of this, it seems.

    • The point is sometimes you might need to change the camera EXIF data for some reason. This tool helps you do it. I’m not really sure why you might want to do this, but it’s cool that there’s a tool out there which can help. :)
