F.lux – cool freeware optimises your computer brightness for the time of day

Flux

F.lux is one of those small utilities that could really change your life, or at least your health. It works by altering the brightness and warmth of your computer screen as the day progresses, so your eyes are not too strained from staring at this bright rectangle all day.

The idea sounds very ergonomic and since eyestrain is all too often a geek disease, it’s a wonder it took so long to come up with this solution. Installation is painless, it’s unobtrusive and you can switch it off or customise it on demand if you need to do some special colour based work. Definitely worth a try out.

F.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer’s display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day. It’s even possible that you’re staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

  • I've been using F.lux for months and love it. When I'm doing something at night that I need to turn it off for, I can FEEL my eyes straining as the "normal" color comes back to the screen. I thought that it would be pretty useless, but I ended up loving it.
