Facbook Chat Bully lets you customize Facebook Chat

One of my favorite ways to communicate with someone that’s not in the same room is via IM. Something about phone conversations has always bothered me, and texting is too much of a hassle. I figure that since I’m generally close to a keyboard anyway, why not just open a chat window? Facebook has unfortunately become the IM client of choice for a number of people, so I find myself using it from time to time. I’m not a fan of the service, mostly because it’s buggy, and Facebook keeps changing it. Their latest change introduced an ugly sidebar that shows a group of users that may or may not be online. Thankfully there is a way to fix this.

Facebook Chat Bully is an extension for both Firefox and Chrome that will let you customize that ugly bar on the right, or get rid of it altogether. I guess I wouldn’t mind it so much if it provided relevant information, such as only showing online contacts. I mean, I really don’t care that I can send an email to someone that’s not online. I could do that before, and it only took a couple of extra clicks. If you use Facebook for chatting very often, I’d say this is worth looking into.
