Fibonacci Clock – is it a clock or an art piece?

We don’t really need to keep clocks on the wall to tell time any more thanks to smartphones and computers. That doesn’t mean we stop hanging clocks, it just means we’re free to make them into things of beauty. Whether you’re a math super freak or a true blue art lover, the Fibonacci Clock is the clock for you.

At first glance, this just looks like an illuminated Piet Mondrian piece with a less bold color scheme (for all you non-art people, he painted the works featuring the boxes in red, white, blue, and yellow with heavy black lines) but on closer inspection, it’s the Fibonacci sequence! Which is a sequence of integers that make perfect spirals. When you follow them in art, it makes for a beautiful painting.

This wonderful clock is powered by Arduino and you can either buy it fully assembled and ready to use or, if you’re really adventurous, you can pick up the DIY kit and make an afternoon of it. The Fibonacci Clock is $135.
