Float Table – the table whose parts appear to be free from gravity

Float Table in use

Not every fantastic item your household looks it. The Float Table looks like pretty unimpressive but shine a little light into it and you’ll start questioning how the blocks are being held up. Hint, it’s not magic, it’s 100% science.

This table is made of wooden cubes which means at first glance, pretty boring. Take a closer look though and you’ll notice that the blocks seem to be floating in thin air. The wooden blocks appear to be repelling each other like magnents and are held in place by a series of thin steel cables. It gets even weirder when you apply a bit of pressure to it.

When you push, it does move. The blocks will smoosh down or move over as you push against them, but they don’t stay that way. They’ll move right back into place. The cables are barely noticeable so the illusion can go on for quite some time. Yay physics and tricky builds! If you want to dazzle friends and family with this interesting physics inspired table, it’s $2000.
