Do you have to constantly change your password for security reasons are tired of having to remember it all on your own? Well good news! The GateKeeper is the little gadget that locks and unlocks your computer automatically so you don’t have to worry about security breaches.
This works on proximity. If you leave your computer it automatically locks it. If you return to your computer it unlocks it for your use. No more remembering passwords, you just have to remember this. Which is the major downside, you have to always carry it with you. If you can’t remember your badge to get in and out of your office, you may want to rethink this.
The device itself is very small and portable as well as easy to use. It’s not expensive and it worked as expected. You have complete control over the settings. The cons are really in whether or not this is useful. If you don’t have sensitive date on your computer, then this may not be something you’re going to invest in. Does it automatically lock if the USB dongle is unplugged? Seems like a hole in the system using an external USB device to link with the key fob. I would think they could write the software in such a way to integrate with the PC’s built in Bluetooth hardware. You may not notice if some one unplugs your dongle, then you just get up and walk away expecting it to lock as it usually does. But overall interesting product.:)
Also I really enjoy your site, it’s the only site I check daily (aside from web comics). You always manage to find not quite so mainstream, and interesting products. Keep up the great work :)
Hi! If you unplug the USB dongle, your PC goes into standby (mine did at least). You can then enter with the password, or plug the dongle back in. You can also disable the feature via the Gatekeeper app on Mac and Windows.
Thanks for the great feedback, love to hear that! – Simon
