GE Hybrid Electric Water Heater – world’s first Energy Star water heater

The new GE Hybrid Electric Water Heater – set to premiere in late 2009 -gives you the hot water you want, using half the energy you’d expect.

GE Hybrid Water Heater Control Panel

The system takes natural heat from the ambient air and transfers it into the water, thereby saving around $250 per year in heat-up costs. The electronic control system gives you set and forget control, and the onboard sensors enable the device to self-monitor and notify the homeowner of potential problems. This trendy looking tank is sure to be a slam dunk for homeowners looking to save some green while being green.

The new industry-exclusive GE Hybrid Electric Water Heater is designed to provide the same hot water homeowners are accustomed to, but requires only about half the energy to produce it. For example, based on the same standard tank water heater that uses approximately 4800 kWh per year, the new GE Hybrid Electric Water Heater is designed to…use less than half of that energy – or about 2300 kWh per year– a savings of approximately 2500 kWh per year.

  • I will buy one as soon as available. What's amazing is that it's taken so long to get this product to market – simply a combination of two tried and proven technologies, heat pump plus a hot water storeage tank.
