GiveIt100.com isn’t just for the beginning of the year but its purpose fits perfectly with all those brand-new starts everyone promises themselves as the new year begins.
The idea began simply enough. A woman by the name of Karen X. Cheng decided she wanted to learn to dance in a year. You can see how she did in the time-lapse video below. The support she received from her self-improvement project inspired her to create GiveIt100.com, combining a person’s willpower with the support of others. The denizens of the Internet can be your cheerleaders, and you can cheer on others that are taking on their own journeys.
When you join 100, you’re agreeing to post a 10-second video every day for 100 days to let others, and yourself, monitor your progress. But don’t worry if you slip up. If you miss a day, Karen won’t send some knuckle-dragging bruiser over to show you the error of your ways by breaking your kneecaps. If you skip a day, don’t sweat it. Just get back on track whenever you can.
As far as the projects go, the only limit is apparently your imagination. A quick glance through the Projects Page reveals people trying to do a pull-up, belly dancing, learning to tap dance, learning to unicycle, doing yoga, learning SQL, and even working on becoming a real super hero.
Using 100 is free but you will need either a Facebook or Twitter account to sign up, so what’s the harm in giving it a try? It’ll only cost you 100 days.
