Google Lens – find out more about your world with just your phone

Wouldn’t you love to just point your phone at something and know instantly what it is? That’s the basic premise behind Google Lens, the app that looks up your world from an image. Combining the camera on your phone and the extensive knowledge of the world wide web, Google will let you know what anything is, just by pointing your lens at it. At least that’s the concept.

This app has a lot of one star reviews, so why show it to you at all? Because it’s a cool concept and it’s likely to get better as time passes. We’re going to give it a try anyway. Previously only available to people who had the Pixel, now the app is out for all Android devices.

Simple to use, just point and click, the app will serve up information about what you’ve captured. Places, clothing, you can even use it on text. It will identify menu items and give you the low down on what they are translate words for instance. You can try it out for free in the Play store.
