Google Mars – never get lost on the Red Planet again.

First there was the internet for space, now we have Google Mars. With all the activity on Mars these days, leave it to Google, to put it all together in one easy-to-search package. There is a complete map of Mars to study with a choice of an elevation relief map, a visible (black and white) map showing Mars as the satellites see it and an infrared map. I had a quick look around and found the “face on Mars” but alas still no sign of the Barsoomians. All we need now is the iPhone application so we can find the best pizza places. Does GPS work on Mars?

This map of Mars, published by Percival Lowell in 1895, was the result of many years spent carefully studying the Red Planet through his telescope. Now you can do the same through your web browser. In collaboration with NASA researchers at Arizona State University, we’ve created some of the most detailed scientific maps of Mars ever made. If you have half as much fun exploring them as we did making them, you’re in for a great time.
