Google Remind Me – Google introduces integrated calendar, search and entertainment to keep us amused

If you want proof of how cool technology can be, you only have to look at the way Google has been integrating valuable functionality in different products, to provide seamless and powerful tools that help us do stuff better. The clearest example of that is Google Now, which can become uncannily effective at helping us out, even when we don’t consciously ask for the help.

If you’ve ever been shocked when it automatically gives you a travel time estimate to the airport the morning of your flight, then you’ll know what we mean. It’s freaky-deaky. Now the company has come up with another similar offering which is kind of trivial, but definitely points the way towards a more sophisticated future where our needs are handled elegantly without us having to do much work.

The Google Remind Me button is now an integral part of any search you do for major television, movie, or music artist on the US Google page. The button links together your online search and your mobile phone through Google Now to deliver reminders about new episodes or releases which are about to happen.

The reminders should ensure that you don’t miss any exciting stuff you want to watch (although a well set up satellite or cable box will do just the same with a series record link) and we can absolutely see this kind of service being extended out to all sorts of entertainment and educational material. Want to keep up with the latest podcasts you’re interested in, classified ads you’re watching, sports and cultural events? Let the cloud take the strain. Watch out for this doozy on a screen near you soon.

Not available outside the US as yet though, which is a shame.
