Plants are really good at getting energy from the sun. It’s kind of their whole thing. Although we can sort of copy the process, photosynthesis hasn’t been seen as a viable source of energy because it cannot convert green light making it not a candidate for technical applications but that may be changing as a research team has been successful in creating a process that fills this gap.
They were able to accomplish this by linking a series of proteins to create a chain that could process this type of light. Early stages have been promising though there is still more research that needs to be done before this is anywhere close to being ready to be scaled up.
Energy innovation for a greener future will likely take many forms as no one type will be perfect for the entire world. Innovations like this prove that we still have so much to research and experiment with.
