If you upgraded to an iPhone 4S from a 4, it’s very likely that you did so for one reason: Siri. That was the main reason I did it (that, and my old phone was worth more than the cost of a new one) and I love using it. Now that the novelty has worn off, I’ve been longing to use Siri to control more things than my texts, emails, and Google Maps. Well, it seems that I soon will be able to, thanks to a group of hackers who are putting Siri to good use.
It’s not exactly a streamlined process right now, but what one developer that goes by the handle Plamoni has done (thanks in part to the work of Applidium) is create a proxy server to communicate with Siri. This allows him to send custom commands to Siri, and have them carried out. What he has then done is connected this to a wireless thermostat. Now with just a command, he can check the temperature of his house, and turn the heat on and off. This might not be a leap in what Siri can do, but it certainly is a step. You can find all of the necessary materials to start working on this hack yourself right here.
