Picture this: A father and son working on the engine for a cherry red hot rod in the garage, dad bent over the open hood, beckoning for his son to hand him the next tool. So emotive. If you’re into building engines (or want to be into it) there’s another option for people who don’t have garages, kids, or cherry red hot rods. The Haynes Build Your Own V8 Engine is a no mess option for curious grease monkeys wannabes.
This is not a full working engine, OK, so you can’t pop it into a tiny car and use it to ride around. Even so, it is a fully working scale model which runs off 3 AA batteries and comes with ‘ignition sound’ as well as light up spark plugs and an engine sound. So it’s a bit more involved than just connecting A to B.
This isn’t for the weak of heart, it’s a project that you’re going to need to go all in for. With over 100 parts it’s designed to teach budding mechanics the ins and outs of engine work, and of course it comes from the world leader in automotive manuals, right? The Haynes Build Your Own Internal Combustion Engine is $65.62
I forgot I wanted one of these. It’s a hobby for blokes who don’t realise they have a hobby.
Haha, yes classic, Makes complete sense. :)
Does it have to be “father and son?” I’m a 50-year-old female and built a V8 model back when I was a kid. I grew up to be an engineer. We need to invite the girls to join in the fun.
Yep, stereotypically guilty as charged. Apologies (but it’s hard to do a headline with too many variables) :)
You don’t want a five page headline just to be PC? LOL. Just remember to shake up the stereotypes once in a while.
Heh, will do. :)
