Helio DAB Radio – a colorful flashback to the 60’s!

For an awesome blend of color, design and technology, you can’t beat the Helio DAB Radio concept. The Helio is a DAB digital radio powered by an array of Grtzel solar cells. The cells provide the power and make it a very colourful addition to any room.

Grtzel cells are dye-sensitised solar cells that can be made with organic dyes including some of the ones associated with chlorophyll and can be made in various colours. With the range of colours available we’re sure to see more of these kinds of products in the future.

In an era of miniaturization for electronic objects, Helio gives radio back the ability to captivate as it used to. Recalling the esthetic of tube amplifiers, the device showcases cells whose direction and colour complement each other to capture almost of the light spectrum.

  • There seems to be a fondness for the European DAB radios. Lots of cool designs like this one. In the USA, the digital radio technology is referred to as "HD Radio". Kind of a poorly named technology if you asked me. It doesn't seemed to have taken off here as DAB has overseas. It's a shame too.

    • Well we are an international blog Videot. Still if you find a HD Radio as cool as this one, please let us know.
