Hipmunk is a very cool online flight finder, which has completely abandoned the traditional boring, listing design motif in favour of a super neat web 2.0 graphical interface. The result is you get to see a lot more information, and more importantly it’s very easy on the eye, so you can find bargains and suitable flights very easily.
The whole thing takes a lot of the ouch out of searching for flights, and there are some great features to make it even better. For instance the ‘agony’ tag is brilliant, as it combines all the factors apart from just price, which can make a flight a painful choice, e.g. departure times at 3am in the morning with lots of stopovers. By sorting on this tag, you can make an informed choice without being caught out by the small print. Superb.
Once you’ve chosen the flight, it’s a one-click process to buy the ticket via Orbitz. with no hassle, no fuss. If only all flight search services were as slick as this. I’m assuming they make their money on some sort of commission fee, but who cares? It’s great, but US only at the moment unfortunately.
Most flight search sites haven’t changed in years. They have an intimidating search page and endless pages of flight results. Finding the right flight often takes all afternoon—or all week. At Hipmunk, we make your experience a lot better. We’re building better interfaces for searching, browsing, and filtering your flight search results.
