Homeslice – the free app that will guarantee your roommates love you [Freeware]

One of the big hassles with disparate people living together as roommates is the fact that communications aren’t easy, which makes organizing collective activities or chores…well a bit of a chore. The typical result is for everyone to rely on the iconic whiteboard, with scribbles and notes covering requests for rent share, shopping and cleaning etc.

But hey, wouldn’t you know it, a bunch of enterprising folk have spotted the problem and come up with a solution. The Homeslice app is an iPhone and Android app which is designed to make it easy for the roomies to stay in touch and share duties and responsibilities without relying on flaky Post-It notes on the fridge door.

The app covers all the important things, like making sure shopping needs are logged (need to buy butter), chores are apportioned out properly, and rent contributions are collected in a timely manner. What makes the app so cool is the fact that it’s all wrapped up in a beautifully elegant interface which actually makes you want to use it.

Of course, as with any software of this sort you get out what you put in, so it won’t cope with a roommate who’s simply too idle or stupid to engage with the app, but hey, maybe that’s in itself a good sign that perhaps things need to change. Of course there are those who may be too technophobic to cope with anything like this, and for those cases we’re thinking that a nice friendly stack of Post-It notes may be an answer.

But for all other cases, this looks to be a great way to keep things in some sort of order in the midst of busy lifestyles colliding in a corridor. At the very least, having a chat and profile function should help you guys identify the strange dude who lives at the end of the hallway who nobody ever sees.

A nice idea!
