Huge floating solar farm – China reuses abandoned coal mine for new power

Coal is not great for the earth, burning coal for power that is. Coal just sitting in the planet slowly forming diamonds and minding its own business is fine. To show its devotion to making a coal free future, China has built a floating solar farm right on top of an abandoned coal mine.

This is a statement, I mean, how blatant is the message that we’re moving away from coal by putting a solar farm right on top of it? In any case, the farm generates enough power for 15,000 homes and will be in working order for up to 25 years.

It is the world’s largest floating solar farm and they plan to build another in the coming years. China has a huge air pollution problem which has contributed to thousands of early deaths in the past few years. Farms like this will help curb that problem which means people can live longer, healthier lives.
