Just when you thought it couldn’t get any weirder, we’re absolutely delighted to be able to offer up a product which is so logical, so amazingly obvious and so clearly valuable in different ways, that we’re seriously thinking of putting it up for the gadget of the year award.

The Hygeia Portable Heart Monitor and Bluetooth Speaker manages to take a perfectly normal and conventional Bluetooth wireless speaker and combine it with a full on heart and EEG monitor system. Presumably someone in research and development figured that while you were listening to Justin Bieber, you might as well get your head and heart checked out just in case. Awesome.

The thing comes with all the goodies you’d expect from either component. You need to download and install the Android app on your phone or tablet device, after which you can monitor your vital signs as and when you wish. You’ll be able to check your cardioacceleration, heart age, respiratory rate and more, and when you’ve finished with all that, you can sit back and relax to some soothing Metallica to round off your day.

Doesn’t get better than that folks. The device, which sports a 1000mAh battery and gives around 6 hours of use, also comes with a built in microSD card slot which will hold up to 16 GB of data. We’re not sure if that’s for music or your dodgy ticker readings, but it’s good to know it’s there, right? The product is priced at $65.11 / £41.52.
