Ideas Island offers a free paradise location to germinate your awesome ideas

Some famous, and probably massively intelligent person, once said that ideas are the stuff of life, and there’s no doubt that most of the West is funded by nothing more than a bunch of ideas, some good, some not so. With all the manufacturing being done elsewhere, let’s face it, ideas are all we’ve got left…well along with a few million patents, some hairdressers and lots of copyright lawyers.

Which makes this Ideas Island concept either a stroke of genius or the biggest scam since Mr Ponzi opened an ice cream parlor. According to the blurb on the site, anyone can put their name down to stay for free on this 30K sq m paradise island in the Philippines, so they can focus on ‘finalizing’ whatever idea they have cooking in their brain.

Yes you heard that right, for free. Well unless you count the small matter of $50 a day for ‘cleaning and caretaker’ costs, food costs, boat fuel and –  buried in the small print in the application –  ‘money you pledge to support our project for the local community’. Apart from all that, it’s completely and utterly free. The guys behind the scheme are a couple of Swedish dudes, who seem quite legit, so we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Jättebra!

There’s only a single villa sleeping four on the island at the moment, but there are plans for another 3 villas sleeping sixteen more, at which point all the intellectual effort going on will probably be enough to set the island scrubland on fire. Anyhow, if you’ve got an incredible idea, airfare to the Philippines, and some spare change for sundries and local projects, drop these guys a line and you could find yourself incubating in paradise.
