JoikuSpot Light – turn your Symbian mobile phone into a WiFi hotspot

JoikuSpot Light is a rather awesome freeware package that installs to your Symbian mobile phone and converts it into a WiFi hotspot. So instead of using that USB dongle on your laptop, you just have to fire up the software on your phone and the laptop will see your phone as a normal WiFi access point. Select it and log on (if you’ve got security set) and off you go, surfing away on the computer (or your iPod Touch!).

I installed it on a Samsung Symbian phone a few days ago and it worked straight out of the box, no mess, no muss. And the speeds were equivalent to using a USB 3G dongle. It’s a great solution for travellers who want to keep things simple, although you’ll definitely need to keep an eye on the battery life of your mobile phone during these sessions.

All in all this is a superb multi-lingual package, which also supports multiple devices connecting at once (great for holiday homes with no indigenous Internet connection) and…well it just works. Amazing.

If you’re a corporate type user, you’ll need to buy the premium version at €15.00, because that gives IMAP email, FTP and VPN support which is needed for accessing firewalled mail services. And Windows Mobile phone users should download the €19.99 WMWifiRouter.

JoikuSpot Light Edition is FREE and SECURE Mobile HotSpot solution that turns Nokia phones to a WLAN HotSpot. JoikuSpot software is installed directly to the phone. When switched on, laptops and iPods can establish instant, secure and fast WLAN connection via smartphone’s JoikuSpot HotSpot using phone’s own 3G internet connection. Multiple devices can connect to JoikuSpot in parallel and seamlessly share the same 3G internet connection.

  • Keen. Would love a Android version that will support 3G and EDGE.
