In places known for their warm weather, climate change means that it’s going to get even warmer. Los Angeles is sunny and hot, hot, hot. In order to prepare for the coming climate changes, the city is taking innovative measures.
The city is implementing a number of cooling techniques for buildings and streets alike to hopefully keep things from getting too hot in the future. This includes new reflective coating for streets, cool roofs to keep air conditioning use down and good old tree coverage.
They’re also implementing water capturing infrastructure to help offset the dry years by what they can. The city will also be increasing how much water it gets through recycling. This is a salient example of large changes to both protect and push against climate change. Many of these measures are more sustainable options in the long run which is great!
