LEAP Motion changes the way you interact with your computer

If you are glued to your computer like most of us, you’ve likely purchased a mouse at some point. They go through general wear and tear just like anything else we use. When you’re searching for a new mouse, something you want to think about is comfort. The way your hand sits on the mouse, and the way it moves will greatly affect your opinion of it.

What if there were a more natural mouse out there that let your hand move more freely? This may seem like a confusing concept, but what I’m talking about is the LEAP Motion, which just takes the mouse out of the equation entirely. Instead of controlling an arrow on the screen, the LEAP will read the movements of your fingertips to scroll, click, and do anything else you’d like. It is about the size of an iPod, and it will create an 8 cubic foot interactive space that will read your movements. It’ll be like reaching into your computer and moving things around rather than clicking on things. The possibilities for this thing are endless, and you can pre-order one now for $70.

  • Interesting idea. Addresses the biggest problem with future touchscreens for desktops – too many fingerprints.

The photo shows the device sitting in front of a laptop keyboard. But the video shows nothing on going from gestures to the keyboard to type. Would reaching for the keyboard cause the screen to change?

  • I'm not convinced that this will be useful in our daily lives. Maybe for occasional use or for specific applications, but not for using all day long.

  • lol, no number of motion controls will be as efficient, effective and quick as a keyboard and mouse.

    • Wot about brain power? :)
