Like – visual shopping search

Likesearch

The good folk at Riya appear to have given up on face recognition search and launched a shopping search tool called Like.com . The new service is very clever and lets you find a product that looks similar to something you’ve seen or can describe. Hmm…why can’t I shake this feeling that they’ve blown through a bunch of VC cash and now the backers are demanding a product which can make money, and fast? So now, up pops this very vertical – ladies shopping – application which is very commercial and may just generate some quick cash if they get the advertising and affiliations right. I’m kinda not convinced, though, about the long term viability of yet another search engine, even though I loved the original Riya tech. Ah well, let’s wait and see.

Like.com is the first true visual search engine, where the contents of photos are used to search and retrieve similar items. We believe that there are literally millions of items that are difficult to describe via text-based search and where individual tastes are all over the map — think of your favorite pair of earrings or shoes and what an ordeal it can be to find something new but in a similar style. We created Like.com to solve the challenge of finding “the perfect you” for a broad range of aesthetic and soft goods.
