LittleShoot P2P Browser Plugin – elegant integration of P2P file sharing with your web browser

LittleShoot is a new P2P web browser plugin, which integrates peer to peer file sharing into any web browser via a Java powered application. In use it looks just like another web page/tab, but underneath it’s connected to Limewire, IsoHunt, YouTube and other services to offer full search and download from the network.

To use, you install the software and then visit the site and access the search tab at which point the software loads into the browser. From there you can hunt for the file you want and download as needed. There’s also a Publish tab on the site for sharing your own files, but that’s disabled at the moment for technical reasons we’re told.

Click on a torrent link and the file begins downloading in the browser, although you’ll find that it can be a little slow for the free version (the $34.95 Pro version offers faster downloads and more sources). It’s open source and the brainchild of the former lead engineer at Limewire, so it’s got cred. The only caveat is the fact that you need to shut down the client manually from Windows Task Manager, otherwise it just keeps running in the background even when you leave the site or finish downloading. Worth a look though, as it comes with some nice touches.

LittleShoot is the most powerful transmitter I can imagine. After working for four years as the lead engineer at LimeWire, I started LittleShoot to overcome all of LimeWire’s shortcomings, from ease of use to legal issues to the underlying technology. The result is a standards-based peer-to-peer application that works directly from your browser with the most powerful searching, publishing, and downloading technology available today.

  • Thanks for the thorough write-up! Just wanted to mention you can also shut down LittleShoot from the system tray. That was added in LittleShoot 0.96 about 2 weeks ago, but certainly isn't obvious if you don' t know to look for it. We'll add more details to the help section.
