Lush Moves Towards Carbon Positive Packaging – company begins using cork for big changes

This isn’t a big step but Lush has moved to using cork instead of plastic creating what might be the first “carbon positive” packaging ever. The company has gone to great lengths to ensure that their packaging is emissions friendly and ethically sourced and despite the small size, still deserves a round of applause.

Cork is made from bark so that whole trees do not need to be cut down. It is harvested every ten years and more trees are planted overtime to continue the harvest. So it encourages more trees to be planted without removing any which is great!

The company has also ensured that it’s shipping process would be a lower carbon one. Once you’re done with the cork, it can be composted so it’s not contributing to landfill waste. Or you can collect all the corks you find for craft projects. In any case, good job, Lush!
