Make your own screen for t-shirt printing

If you’ve ever had a cool t-shirt design, there’s a good chance that you never bothered to actually get a shirt made with it. Usually the biggest hurdle is the cost involved with getting shirts printed. Most shirt printing shops charge a good bit for a small run, as it takes time and money for them to make a screen for a single shirt. Well if you have a design already made, and want a cheap way to transfer it to a shirt, you can make a screen and print it yourself.

The trick is not to have someone make a screen for you, but rather to have a vinyl sticker printed. Just go to a local sign shop, and let them know that you want such a thing made. Hand over your file (you’ll want to use a vector image, for scalability) and make sure that they print the inverse of the design. Now, when you get it, just peel off the sticky part, and put it on a blank screen. It’ll take a bit of work to get it all smoothed out, but when you do, just block off the rest of the screen with tape. Now you’re left with a screen that will only let the outlines of your design through. Check out this Instructables guide for complete instructions.
