McDonalds to offer electric vehicle recharging at restaurants

Image

First they offered their customers WiFi, now McDonalds is installing electric vehicle charging stations for the 6 of you out there with electric cars. Starting in Cary North Carolina, a McDonalds will be the first to offer car recharging via the ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations. As we all know one of the barriers to electric vehicle take up is the lack of charging infrastructure and I suppose this is one way to improve things. But spending 4 hours in McDonalds waiting for my car to charge doesn’t sound like super fun to me, can’t we have them at the movies or shopping centres as well? [Photo from Flickr]

  • Just to be clear, in my city the wi-fi that McDonald's provides is for a fee and is over-priced.

    • Ouch David but I hear you. :)

  • Nobody 'gets it' on these recharging stations. The manufacturers need to agree on a common battery type and common placement under the vehicle. Then you could drive into a bay and a robot under the car would swap your battery for a fully charged battery in less time than it takes to fill a tank with gas.
