Mega-Search – Mega gets its very own 3rd party search engine in record time…or not

Well that didn’t take long. The majestic and all-conquering Mega file storage service has only been out for two minutes and already it’s attracting third party services to add functionality. The first one out of the gate is a multi-lingual search engine, based we assume around the uploaded file names, rather than heavily encrypted content.

Mega-Search offers a basic, but very functional search system with all the relevant information you need laid out in one infinite scrolling page. You can enter in your choice of search terms and specify the file type you’re looking for, but it’s the file listings themselves that are bound to get the most browsing attention.

Ironically, or maybe not, it seems as if the Mega service is at war with the new search engine, because files older than about 15 – 20 minutes stop being downloadable, with a curt message being displayed instead of the elegant download box above.

We can only assume that there’s some feverish takedown action going on by the Mega team in the background to stop the downloading of copyright material, but it seems as though they’re catching everything in the net with their code, not just copyright material. But we guess Kim Dotcom would really really like to avoid a repeat of the black helicopter episode on his front lawn.

Pass the popcorn, this could get interesting.
