MerlinVision – train this program to identify birds

Curious Owl

Are you bored and looking for a way to help science? Of course, you are! If you don’t have any plans for the weekend, why not help the Merlin Photo ID engine become smarter? Help tag photos to help this particular system identify birds.

This is an easy way to waste some time and help us all learn more about our feathered friends. There are a lot of pictures with a lot of birds (and some with no birds) that are out there. You can help this program get better at identifying our feathered friends simply by telling it where to look.

You’ll be presented with a photo and all you have to do is put a square around the bird. That’s it! Skip photos that don’t contain birds and only identify the correct bird in the photos of multiple birds. It’s a really easy way to help out and do something useful with your time. Sign up for an account on the website and start helping science.
