Microplastics in Drinking Water – probably won’t hurt you but still not great

Microplastics are everywhere. In the air, soil, and water. Which means they’re getting into all aspects of living beings, including us. We’re drinking them in our water, breathing them in our air, heck maybe even ingesting them through the food chain. But don’t worry, scientists don’t think it’s going to be a problem for us, yet.

The study of what microplastics do to living organisms is still very new and although there have been nine studies on the matter, there’s not really enough data to make a determination yet. What can be said is that so far, it seems that they just pass through us.

Our water filtering systems also remove much of them before we drink which is great but then again, those systems also make use of plastic and may be contributing to the problem. Still, no reason to panic yet. That being said, try to cut down plastic waste where you can.
