Rats, a common city pest. No one likes to see them running around and for big, big cities like New York City, they’re an epidemic. One that may only be getting worse because of climate change. As if lack of water and extreme heat weren’t enough, now we have to worry about rats. What a nightmare!
The amount of rat complaints in NYC is going up and the theory is that there are more rats because they’re not slowing down on breeding through the winter. With warmer temperatures, they’re just breeding year around which is causing a spike in numbers. Bummer.
Though this theory hasn’t been proven, it’s rather plausible. If it turns out to be the case, longer breeding time for vermin can be a serious consequence of climate change that can lead to all sorts of public health issues.
