It turns out that lowering the amount of meat eaten isn’t about lowering the amount of meat offered. You can encourage a change by offering more plant based options. Which now that we’ve said that, seems pretty obvious?
In a small study with school cafeterias it was found that meals that offered more plant based food were picked over ones that offered heavier meat courses. Likely due to the variety of foods. After all, vegetables are very yummy.
Although this is a small isolated study, there’s no reason why offering greater plant foods along side meat dishes can’t help people at home. Start making two veggies instead of just one. Have fun with it, explore spices and taste profiles. Over time, you may see your servings of meat go down.
