Mortal Coil – A Slinky with a macabre twist

Mortal Coil

No bones about it. Lovers of 3D printing and all things skeletal will get a thrill out of this playful sculpture.

It’s a shame the folks behind the Slinky didn’t think of doing something like this for Halloween, but at least the Mortal Coil fills the void for this neat mixture of spooky decoration and entertaining toy.

Using the 3D printing technology provided by Shapeways, white nylon plastic was transformed into a stretchable, twistable skull with a matte finish and slightly grainy feel.

While a skull-shaped Slinky-style work of art won’t be everybody’s cup of tea, we have to admit it’s one of the more fun ways of using 3D printing that we’ve seen… and the price isn’t bad either after considering that a lot of 3D-printed objects tend to be on the pricy side, and most of those objects just sit there and look pretty.

You can get wrapped up with the Mortal Coil for $49.99.
