MP3 Direct Cut and Merge MP3 – two super cool freeware programs for specialised audio file editing

Mp3directcut

The free MP3 Direct Cut program gives you quick and dirty direct editing of MP3 audio files without having to decompress them, which means the results will be higher quality. Comes with pause detection and an ID3 tag editor so you can easily split up long tracks into smaller more digestible chunks. Very useful.

Mergemp3

At the other end of the scale we find Merge MP3, which…you guessed it…lets you merge multiple audio tracks into one recording. You can sort the files into any order you like (e.g. name, size, date) and merge MP3 files with different bit rates. Pretty useful for putting together a large audio book or similar.

With these two free utilities under your belt, you’re gonna be an MP3 audio master, you mark my words.

 * mp3DirectCut is a fast and extensive audio editor and recorder for compressed mp3. You can directly cut, copy, paste or change the volume with no need to decompress your files for audio editing. This saves encoding time and preserves the original quality, because nothing will be re-encoded.

 * It is often necessary to merge multiple sound files into one recording. This need may arise for various reasons: merge ripped CD tracks into one, combine multiple chapters of an audiobook, etc.
