Natural Swimming Pools – backyard pool without the chemicals.

When I was a kid we had a saltwater swimming pool in our backyard and although it was kinder to your eyes, you still came out of it with sore lungs and reeking of chlorine. It turns out there is an alternative, natural swimming pools, like these from Clear Water Revival are not only chemical free, but make stunning water features as well. Perfect for MPs and their crazy expense accounts.

Natural swimming pools use a living base of aquatic plants, filters and micro organisms to clean and regenerate the swimming water. A shallow “natural” regeneration section is kept separate from the swim zone. You can choose the ratio of swim zone to regeneration zone and you can even heat the water in natural pools up to 28C. The water is clear like a lake and if you’re keen you can stock them with fish and frogs to keep down the mosquitos. Doesn’t say anything about trout or salmon though.

Whilst the construction costs are about the same as traditional pools, the ongoing costs are less. Natural pools use smaller pumps and don’t need chemicals but you might need to jump in every now-and-then and trim the plants.

A natural swimming pool, sometimes called a swimming pond where designed as such, offers a completely natural alternative to chemical pools/ozone or salt pools. They are chlorine-free, and harness nature’s processes, with micro organisms and plants balancing the water chemistry and maintaining clean, clear and hygienic conditions.
