Navevo ProNav 420 – the world’s first cyclist friendly truck GPS system

Wherever you’re driving one thing is a given…trucks and cyclists don’t get along. One’s too big and the other too darn uppity to be real close friends, which is why there are far too many accidents involving both trying to occupy the same piece of tarmac. Unfortunately we know who always comes off worse.

But now there’s hope that, even if it doesn’t mean eternal bonds of true love, the truck and the cyclist could get along a lot better. The Navevo ProNav 420 is the first GPS satnav system in the world which incorporates cycle alerts to let truck drivers know that there’s a good chance some bicycles are in his vicinity.

The system is static at the moment, in that it’s based on transport data for particular junctions (in this case London, UK), but with a bit of luck one day there might be a version which operates a live tracking system to ensure that cyclists have a better chance of avoiding injury or worse at vulnerable junctions.

Because the system is designed for large vehicles it also comes with a bunch of technology to help the driver avoid low bridges, tight squeeze junctions and also includes a journey planner option to help freight carriers use the optimum routes for their deliveries and pickups. The unit is priced at £269.99.
