NeverWet is a new spray on coating which makes just about any surface completely water-repelling. But hold on, we mean *really* water repellant. This stuff doesn’t just stop water sinking in, it seems to actually repel it with almost no surface friction at all.
In technical terms the coating has a superhydrophobic rating of 160–175 degrees, this being the contact angle of a liquid with the coated surface. The maximum is 180 degrees which means that the liquid is a perfect ball on the surface and therefore rolls off incredibly easily. Teflon has a rating of 95 degrees, a waxed car hood is 90 degrees. So this is really slippery stuff, peeps.
What’s not so certain is where you can buy the new wonder coating. A video circulating on Reddit (below) shows a guy from developer Ross Nanotechnology holding a can of the coating, but there’s no price or availability info on the site itself. We’re wondering whether this is all teaser process, to drum up viral interest. If so, it’s working guys! Watch out for this stuff on shelves near you soon. [Via]

At Ross Nanotechnology, we have developed a super hydrophobic coating that completely repels water and heavy oils. Any object coated with our NeverWet™ coating literally cannot be touched by liquid. Any liquid placed on this coating is repelled and simply rolls off without touching the underlying surface. Not only is this amazing to see, but it solves a myriad of problems.
I need to know if this product will work under water. Applied out of the water then put in the water. If it will work or you need someone to try it I would be interested for the bottom of a boat. Thanks. Ron @ California Marine Engineering
it wont stand the water pressure if you ask me. its selicone its not verry strong material
It's July of 2012 and still no commercial products. Technica glitches? Toxicity? Durability?
Hmm…interesting. If I had to guess I'd say problems with getting it to adhere to surfaces?
Neverwet seems to be never available. Must be having OSHA or EPA probloems with it. Probably found it to be toxic or something
Nope, thing is that this product and its formula itself cost lots of money so the manufacturer is trying to do lots of contracts with many companies that would use this product before selling it to regular customers like you guys
