A new, expanded Environment Bill in the UK is in the works to tackle plastic waste head on. The new bill will ban the export of plastic and put nature and sustainability at the forefront of efforts to slow down the rising tide of plastic waste.
Plastic waste is generally shipped to poorer countries. The new bill will stop this from happening and force companies that use plastic packaging to deal with it more directly instead of passing
the responsibility to the consumer.
The bill has detractors but most agree it is a step in the right direction. It does not cover all aspects of plastic waste or pollution and could be stronger in many areas but it still shows a movement in the right direction.
