Nest Protect – at last, a smoke alarm without those annoying false alerts

nestprotect

If you’re not the kind of guy who’d throw a fire extinguishing grenade on a loose fire, you’d better get some early protection like a smoke alarm. However mostly smoke alarms are really annoying because even if you burn toast or over-cook your indoor BBQ (hey it’s your house), the alarm goes off and annoys you until you give it a couple of smacks. (not recommended)

But gone are the days when smoke alarms were dumb, meet the all new Nest Protect the smartest smoke alarm ever created. This device gives you an early warning in a soft human voice when it senses unusual smoke or CO levels rising, so if it’s a false alarm you can simply wave at it to stop the warning.

The alarm is also Wi-Fi compatible so whenever there’s an emergency while you’re out, it sends a message to your phone or tablet. It will also notify you on your smart device if it’s running low on batteries instead of making annoying beeps like all other alarms do. Pre-orders for the Nest Protect are now available for $129 via Nest Store.

  • as long as it doesn’t interface with my Nest thermostat to say “it’s getting warmer, we can shut the a/c off now for awhile!” and then report energy savings while the house burns down.
