If you live around other people, either urban or suburban, chances are, you live in a neighborhood and there are small things that happen hyper-locally that aren’t reflected in your daily social media newsfeeds. If you don’t want to add all your neighbors to your Facebook but you do want to stay abreast of the local going-ons, check out Nextdoor, the social network for your neighborhood.
This is a network of multiple private networks based around neighborhoods. It’s determined by your street address. Input your address and it will connect you with your personal neighborhood. You can use this mini network for a variety of things.
Stay in the loop about neighborhood events such as spring clean ups, block parties, or even criminal activities or you can use it for local services. See whose kid is mowing lawns this summer for cash or who is available for a playdate. It’s a way to get to know your neighbors and what your particular living area can do for you without having to go door to door with homemade baked goods. Nextdoor is free.
My neighborhood uses Nextdoor. It is also available for Android, even though your screenshots only show an iPhone
It’s also available for desktop use, no app needed.
I need a private anti-social network. I hate my neighbours.
Haha!
