Off Shore Fish Farms – new research shows this may be a viable food source in the future

We eat a lot of seafood. We, as humans of the Earth. It’s one of the world’s major sources of proteins and people seem to love it. But there are only so many fish in the sea, in a very real sense, and we can’t just keep fishing as we have been. New studies in fish farming have shown that it is a feasible option to ensure a steady food source.

Fish farms built offshore in the Caribbean may be able to produce a substantial amount of fish for consumption and do so without many of the pitfalls that land based farms fall into. This would be namely the lack of resources and increase in pollution.

As for right now, this is all estimates but the findings are interesting in that they could lead to a more secure food source for all. One of the fears with climate change is mass starvation as drought makes crops for both human and animal consumption less viable. Check out the article to see the full scope of the study.
