Om One – world’s first levitating speaker. Why? Because they can…

I feel like I talk about speakers a lot but music is my liiiiiiiiife. I used to think that speakers were just something that sound came out of, but recently I’ve been seeing some marvels of design out there, and this one takes the cake. The Om One Bluetooth speaker is the world’s first levitating powerhouse of sound.

At first glance, it seems like some sort of Photoshop futuristic art piece, but it’s actually a floating speaker. Listen, anything that floats is automatically cool in my book. Skateboards are cool, and hoverboards are even better. But unlike the recent hoverboard hoax, this one is real.

Om One

It’s a cool rechargeable sphere that uses magnets to float above a metal base, and at the same time it connects through Bluetooth 4.0 to stream sound. You can even connect two to create an immersive sound experience. Bonus, it has a mic so it can also be used to do Skype calls and what not. It was apparently designed by people who have devoted their lives to sound, so beyond looking cool, it should output some attractive noise too.The device is being crowdfunded but has more than met is goal and has been updated to preorder for shipment in December. The Om One starts at $179.

  • If these are hi-fi standard they would presumably be immune to vibrational feedback effects and therefore more accurate. Awesome potential.

    • Heh, it would be very interesting to see a larger set do this (need some serious magnets though I’m thinking). :)
