Open Building Institute – A Cheap Open Source House in 5 Days!

OBI builiding

Your home is one of your biggest assets and making it green is a way to help out the Earth from the word go. If where you live is sustainable, then you’re already having far less of an impact on the world around you. The Open Building Institute is an initiative to help provide people with the information they need to build green living structures.

The goal of this project is to enable anyone to be able to make a home or greenhouse that is entirely sustainable and can be expanded on as their family and needs change. The best part of all is that these buildings can be constructed for under 25K (far cheaper than most new homes) and completely built in less than a week. The OBI will empower you with all the knowledge you need to make this happen so that you can build your own home.

OBI plans

They are currently funding their dream on Kickstarter and eventually the information will be compiled and released as an open source resource for people to expand upon and build their own homes. What they are funding for is a way to make this happen. Your donation doesn’t “get” you anything but it helps build the library so that everyone can benefit. You can check out the Kickstarter for more information or see what they have already created on their website.
