Bicycle helmets are all well and good, but the big problem is you need to carry them around with you on your travels. Even though they’re not as big as motorbike helmets, they’re still large enough to be awkward in bags, and you can forget about pockets. But now there’s a version which looks to be a bit more portable friendly.
The Overade Plixi from Velorution is a fairly comprehensive and somewhat conventional cycle helmet, except for the fact that it can be folded in on itself to fit more easily into small spaces and bags. It’s made of your typical hardened ABS plastic, so should deliver all the protection you need, but when you’re done cycling about, just press in the clips and fold the sucker up to stick it somewhere discrete.
It’s definitely ingenious, and we can see it suiting folks who need to stash their head cans somewhere handy, but we can’t help feeling that this battle will not truly be won until someone comes up with something you can stuff in your pocket at the end of the journey. Yeah we’re fussy, but we’re waiting for it to happen. This product will have to do in the interim, and it’s priced at £79.99.
