Philadelphia is opening a city wide composting facility to help tackle their garbage problem. The single facility will be compost waste from 30-35 recreation centers with plans to scale up to all of them. In addition to the main site, there will be eleven other sites round the city to serve the community directly.

Composting is pretty simple but space is a big barrier for people in an urban environment. This step will allow people in Philadelphia, which does have a bit of a garbage issue, to be more proactive about disposing of their trash in a conscious way.

The city is also planning to focus on recycling and reusing in order to cut down on pollution and waste. There are many types of waste and many ways to dispose of it. Just throwing it in the landfill should be the last resort.
