PhotoScan – scan those memories before they fade forever

photoscan

There are a ton of apps that turn your phone’s camera into a scanner with varying success. Google has introduced PhotoScan, the camera scanner that is optimized for scanning photos for easier sharing and saving.

We like to take photos and this isn’t a new phenomenon. There’s probably a huge number of pictures scattered throughout your family members in boxes and albums all over the place. Unfortunately, physical photos degrade over time. You can save the image by using this to scan them in and at least save them in the digital world.

This app uses edge detection to automatically crop photos so you only get the picture, not a bunch of background. It also corrects for perspective and has smart rotation so the picture is always right side up. Best of all, the scans will be glare free so your final scan is perfect, to preserve the memory forever. You can back up all your scans to Google Photos where you can work with them directly or just share them. PhotoScan is free.

  • I hate that the iPhone is show above when it is available for Android. Show an Android phone

    • Hi Davin, I used the photos that the developer had available. I wish the developers would use more Android phones in their mockups too!

  • I really need to upgrade my Galaxy S3 :-/
This app works with Android 5.0 and up.

    • Yeah, that does bite. It’s brand new software so it’s not surprising that it’s only running on the later versions of the OS.
