The Pioneer…[whoa, time out, time out. Whose clever dick idea was that headline? Eh? Speak up. Yours chum? Well you’re fired, now get out. And stop snivelling, OK?]… Right, where were we? Oh yes. The Pioneer AVIC HD1BT Hard Drive Sat Nav Entertainment System. The first vehicle sat nav system which can ‘intelligently recognise and store your frequently-used journeys’. Plus it will also hold 160 hours of music on the hard drive which you control by voice. Neato. Now, who’s going to explain to their marketing dept. that there’s little point in storing frequently-used journeys, because you probably…ahem…know how to drive them already? Ah well.

It’s the first navigation system to intelligently recognise and store your frequently-used journeys (so no need to re-input regular routes), and covers 26 countries, detailing 3.2 million points of interest (with selected contact numbers), whilst re-routing you to avoid traffic congestion. You also have the ability to store up to 160 hours of music on the system’s Hard Disk Drive and select them by voice; control a mobile phone hands-free and be entertained through a versatile range of music formats – including the content of your iPod.

  • It sounds like a great idea … my sister suffered a brain aneurism and although she can drive it is her short term memory that is effected. So it becomes the short do it all the time trips that she has the most trouble with.

    GOOD IDEA!!

  • Nathanael, with *absolutely* no disrespect to your unfortunate sister, I’m just not sure how big a market that is likely to be for a global consumer electronics company of Pioneer’s size. But it looks like an interesting piece of kit anyway, my snarkiness notwithstanding. :-)

  • Cool site – thanxs

Dont you think that a major benefit of sat nav – and indeed this system – is that it not only gives directions – but tells you how to avoid traffic jams with TMC? Then, remembering your frequent journeys makes sense.

  • I strugle to download music onto my mini disc . It would be nice to listen to music whilst navigating as well.
