Process Lasso – fire and forget computer system balancing

Process Lasso is a neat little freeware utility that improves your computer’s responsiveness during peak load situations. If you’ve ever sat there twiddling your thumbs while the machine grinds to a halt trying to cope with a single heavyweight task (like rendering), then you’ll recognise the problem. Oh, and it works. I’ve just tried it in Thunderbird, doing a search in a massive folder – which normally crunches everything to a halt – and my laptop has kept its cool. Nice one, it’s a keeper.

Process Lasso is a unique new technology intended to automatically adjust the allocation of CPU cycles so that system responsiveness is improved in high-load situations. It does this by temporarily lowering the priorities of background processes that are consuming too many CPU cycles, there-by giving other processes a chance to run. This process priority optimization is useful for both single and multi-core processors. No longer will a single process be able to bring your system to a virtual stall.
